Why is the Anchor part of the Anglican Convocation in Europe?
When we planted the Anchor in October 2019, we initially found an ecclesial home within the Gafcon Missionary District for Europe provided by the Anglican Church in North America through the Anglican Network in Canada. There we discovered a remarkable selfless gospel generosity and a wonderful unity with others under the Jerusalem Declaration, many of whom had made huge sacrifices to stand for the authority of Scripture, and yet express their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ culturally in very different ways.
Authorised by the Primates’ Council of Gafcon, ACE now exists to provide a home for all historic orthodox biblical confessional Anglicans in Europe – regardless of churchmanship – expressing that same gospel generosity within the bounds of the Jerusalem Declaration.
Drawing on the example set by ACNA, and also by those who formed the Church of Confessing Anglicans Aotearoa New Zealand with the tag “not just for us, not just for now”, we want to play our part in bringing together, under the authority of the Bible, faithful Anglicans, united in substance, yet diverse in expression, rooted in tradition, yet contemporary in practice.
In short, we want to stand shoulder to shoulder with, and be part of providing a home for, all who will stand for the truth of Bible.
